Black Nightmare Rough Cut 2

DW - Titles influence

John Carpenter's Halloween
For our titles in our film opening we were very much influenced by John Carpenter's Halloween title's with the serif font and with the title all being in capitals. Also the titles are shown on a black background which gives it a serious feel to it rather than a comedy feel or romantic, so here it's already providing some sort of exposition towards the genre as this is what you'd expect with a slasher opening title. Also there's a non- diegetic soundtrack over the top which works well to add to the spooky effect and build up tension.

Black Nightmare

So with our title we're going to use the same serif font and use a black background to try and create the same effect as Halloween did. Also we're going make a soundtrack to be the non-diegetic sound over the top whiles the titles are playing to build up the tension for the opening scene.

Black Nightmare Rough cut 1

With this rough cut we're missing plenty of footage that should of been included, and we're already planning on re-shooting the scenes that we have included as they're not of the quality we are looking for

Franchise Analysis

Leprechaun (Mark Jones, 1993)
Budget: $900K box office made $2.5m in a weekend.
Comments that were made about the film  were all poor. It was not a recommended movie.
There are already 6 movies in the franchise and there is soon to be a remake coming up next year.
The fourth one was Hybrinity due to the syfi horror combined. The fifth and sixth were also hybrid due to the "gangsta" look.
The scream queen in this film is not your typical scream queen (she is a counter type).
Pogo stick is used as the killing weapon, this is a unusual weapon.

DW - Black Nightmare: Shoot Planning

We have started the planning off by organising and buying various different props such as a mask and some fake severed fingers online and so with these being delivered at certain dates we've had to plan our shoots around these dates so we've decided to shoot on Monday the 18th. Also we've been researching online hot to make fake blood so we'll be making this on the day of the shoot as well.

Also what we have got is a meat cleaver which we are using to indicate the butchers identity and a butchers piny or apron. Another form of costume and make up we are using is the black hooded jumper or coat which hides the identity of the killer to create some narrative enigma.

Planning to do with the mise-en-scene is the garage and transforming it into a secret massacre den of which the killer lives and we are going to cover the walls with black tarpaulin drapes so that it looks like a scary and dark and delusional so it creates an atmosphere towards the audience. Also we are putting a cork board of pictures of houses on the tarpaulin to show where the killer has been and already killed, this is a signifier of where he will strike next.

We are planning on shooting the film at a few different places, these being Ben's House, Dom's House and Dom's Road. we feel these locations will benefit our film opening due to the way we will shoot the opening with the various shot types and angles also the point of view shots will prove key for this.

Black Nightmare: Schedule and Time Managment
